Group sessions and conferences

Not every consultation is a one-to-one. Training courses, group therapy, case conferences and family conversations run on the same certified platform as an individual consultation at MEDITyme — with the same rules for data protection and billing.

What practices use group sessions for

  • Psychotherapy and psychology — the protected setting of a group session, without everyone having to travel.
  • Speech therapy and logopaedics — good real-time audio is the actual prerequisite here.
  • Training for chronic conditions — diabetes education, nutritional counselling, back-care classes.
  • Case conferences and consiliary discussions — several clinicians on one case, without the scheduling logistics.
  • Conversations with relatives — when family members in different places should join.

How many people can take part

A group session is designed for up to 25 participants. In practice we recommend five — at that size the conversation stays manageable, everyone gets a turn, and the bandwidth on all sides holds up reliably. When it has to be more, up to 50 is possible — talk to us beforehand so we can prepare the session accordingly.

What applies technically

Group sessions run in the browser, with nothing to install, on the same devices as an individual consultation. Every participant receives their own link.

Unlike a one-to-one call, a group call runs through a media server. The transmission is encrypted in transit (WebRTC with DTLS-SRTP); end-to-end encryption in the strict sense is not technically in place for group calls. We say so explicitly rather than advertising a term that does not apply here. More on the Security and data protection page.

Bandwidth is the limiting factor: the more people sending at once, the more line capacity is needed. For group sessions we therefore recommend a fixed connection rather than mobile data, and a headset for everyone who speaks. Details are under Technology and troubleshooting.

Creating the appointment

You create a group session like any other appointment — via its own appointment type with a suitable duration. How appointment types work and how to open consultation hours for them is described under Appointments and calendar.

Billing

The same routes apply as for individual consultations: statutory billing through your regional association, private billing through the positions you have stored, or as a self-pay service directly through the platform. Which services are billable as a group service depends on your specialty and the relevant contract — that is not decided by the technology. How billing works on the platform is described under Billing and tariff.
